MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi has weighed in on the current state of competition in the premier class, emphasizing just how difficult it is to challenge Marc Marquez—especially without a competitive bike.
Marquez entered the 2026 MotoGP season as the reigning world champion after securing the 2025 title with the factory Ducati team. Known as “The Baby Alien,” he delivered a remarkable campaign, dominating the grid with 11 main race victories and 14 sprint race wins.
In contrast, his teammate Francesco Bagnaia struggled to match that level of performance. Bagnaia, often referred to as Pecco, managed only two wins in both main races and sprint races combined, ultimately finishing fourth in the overall standings.
The significant gap in results between the two Ducati riders did not go unnoticed. Rossi, a nine-time world champion, pointed out how impressive Marquez’s pace has been, especially considering it was his first season with the Italian manufacturer.
“Beating Marquez with a slightly slower bike is simply impossible,” Rossi said in an interview. He also highlighted the psychological pressure Marquez’s speed can impose on teammates, noting that his immediate competitiveness within the paddock makes things even tougher.
As the 2026 season unfolds, Marquez is already facing new challenges. Riders from Aprilia—including Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin—have shown strong and consistent performances in the opening three races, signaling a potentially tighter battle ahead.
